I went to downtown Austin in Oct 2020 for an outdoor walking murder mystery game. I was shocked to see that my beloved city that had once enchanted me so much had all but crumbled. Businesses and offices were boarded up. There was no live music nor troubadors pouring music into the streets. The homeless population had amassed, and druggies slowly zigzaged around like zombies. This post-apocalyptic scene took the wind out of my sails. On the plus side, it did inspire me to write a short story in this setting, after I'd had a very long period of no writing at all. Please enjoy this eerieness.
